AUTUMN NEWSLETTER 2018-19
Hello Parents and Players,
Firstly, a big welcome to any new players who have joined our club since the season started. We hope you and your children are enjoying their time.
The Season So Far
Results have been mixed for all teams this year, but all managers are extremely happy with their progress.
The U11s with Khalid have settled well and are now starting to put in some decent performances. The U12s under Frank have had a great start but with a couple of close games. Both the U11s and U12s are now going to go into the competitive season.
The U13s have had a good start and are currently fighting for the top of the table, unfortunately losing against the current division leaders from last minute goals. They have managed to reach Round 4 of the Dick Hopkins Cup after beating Widmer End 5-0 in the previous round.
The U14s have had a few close games, but managed to break a club record winning 24-0 against Wendover in the League Cup 2nd Round. They go onto play Thame Boys (who previously beat the U14s in the U12s league final 2 years ago) in the next round.
The Volunteers of The Ridge
We have 3 vital members of the club that players and parents rarely see. Peter Jemmett, our club secretary, deals with all the administration side of the club, including running our monthly update meetings. He does the Rye parkrun every Saturday and comes to some home games to take pictures of our games. Peter is one of the founders of Totteridge, which has been going on for over 20 years! Eric Chapman is our Chairman and Welfare Officer and keeps the club and its volunteers in check. He is an independent eye to the running of the club, trying to ensure good governance, rule compliance and financial health. Ian Mitchell is the club’s treasurer since 2000 and has provided us with bank balances (from lows to highs) since then. All three are WWFC season ticket holders and big football fans, so if you visit Adams Park you may well see them.
We have 4 managers with coaches;
- U14s – Liam and Nathan
- U13s – Tahir (Tak) and Peter
- U12s – Frank
- U11s – Khalid and Youness
We are looking for more volunteers. As many of you have seen, in some weeks Khalid has a lot more players and on occasions additional helpers are not available. We want all children to be involved as much as possible but this can only happen with YOUR HELP. We do have enough children to separate some into their own group but they will need two parents to do so. If are interested please let us know. Our coaches also would like some separate sessions for the goalkeepers, if you think you could help, also let us know.

SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2018-19
Hello Parents and Players,
Most of you know me, but for the newer parents and players, my name is Olly and I have been coaching here for 5 seasons now! I thought I would just let you know all the goings on here at the club, changes to this coming season and what’s been happening behind the scenes over the summer.
The Summer – Registrations and Fund Raising
The new season is now upon us, but what happens in order to get the new season going? Well for starters it’s registrations. We have to register teams by the end of June in order to have them start in September. Unfortunately, this is a bit of a risk as sometimes, as in the case of a previous men’s team, some players and volunteers decide over the summer that they want to depart. However, this season we have a strong group of U14s, U13s, U12s and U11s. We also have an upcoming U9s/U8s team which I will go onto later.
As we do every year, the club does some fund raising on the August bank holiday Monday at Hazlemere Fete. We run a BBQ and a Beat the Keeper. The BBQ has only come to us in the last few years but has been a very good fund raiser. A BIG THANKS to all the volunteers including Shafique and Louise, Sarah and Carl, Justin, Paul, Frank and some of our younger helpers Aiden and Daniel.
The Teams and Volunteers
As we have some new parents and players I thought I should explain the teams. We currently have full squads of U11s to U14s. Starting with the U11s, this is a small new team that is an offshoot from the U12s thanks to some growth. Khalid is managing this team and hopes to have a great success in his first season as manager, but is still wanting more players. Frank is one of the more experienced managers and is raring to go with his now U12s. The U13s are managed by Tak with help from Peter, one of the older brothers of a player. They go into their first season at 11v11. Then onto the U14s, who I managed up until last season. Nathan is staying with us, but Liam is taking over management. I wish success to all teams this season.
As Totteridge Rec is under redevelopment, the U11s and U12s will play home games at Hazlemere Rec and the U13s and U14s will play at Fernie Fields. I have attached a fixtures list to this newsletter but fixtures change regularly, especially at the beginning of the season. Up to date fixtures can be found on our website, or you can ask any of the managers for a copy.
I will also point out now, every year we get a lot of registration forms without fees. Please note that fees are the reason we can actually play games AND CAN HAVE KIT, so please make every effort to pay. We will be stricter on payments this year due to a large number of missing payments from the last season.
We have also had a number of even younger players join us recently, and we are looking to create an U9s or U8s team, to start matches in January. We almost have enough players, but a couple more, plus some volunteers (managers and coaches!) are wanted. We help in every way we can, including Health and Safety Certificates and FA Coaching Courses. Any one that wants to get involved, please say so and what you would like to do.
That’s it from me for now. Next newsletter I will go into more details about our backroom staff! I wish you all the best for the first couple of months of the season.
